Golf: One of the best courses is the Red Lawrence designed 18 hole championship golf course at the Kino Springs Golf Club. A short drive on US I-19 nets you three additional highly regarded golf courses; Rio Rico Country Club (rated one of the best front nines in Arizona), Tubac Golf Resort (site of the movie “Tin Cup”) and Palo Duro. The Green Valley area has 8 highly rated courses. Among the finest are: Canao Hills Golf Club, San Ignacio Golf club, Haven Golf Club and Torres Blanco Golf Club. All scenically spectacular, and challenging for all skill levels.
Recreation: Patagonia Lake State Park and Pena Blanca Lake offer numerous outdoor water related activities (fishing, boating, sailing, swimming, etc). Scenic hiking and horseback riding opportunities abound in the adjoining National Forest.
Birding: The area is at the center of some of the best birding in the country. Exotic birds can be found from Madera Canyon south to the Santa Cruz River valley. Nearby Benson and Patagonia are also home to two renowned wildlife sanctuaries; The San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area and the Sonoita Creek Bird Sanctuary. Lake Patagonia hosts some of the most unusual and rare waterfowl in the country.
Historic: The area is rich in history. Visit some of the legendary missions that dot the area. The ruins of Tumacacori mission, established in 1691 and the Tubac Presidio, once a Spainish military garrison are excellent examples of this rich history. North on I-19 is Mission San Xavier Del Bac, fully restored in its magnificent splendor. Many of the missions hold festivals and celebrations throughout the year.
Wineries: Dotting the area are a number of vineyards which produce excellent wines, many of which you can enjoy while dining in local establishments. Wine tasting tours are a popular local activity.
Mexico: Just a few hours away are many exceptional recreational opportunities. Cabo San Lucas hosts some of the most luxurious resorts, golf courses and beaches in the world. Experience deep sea fishing and scuba diving in the Sea of Cortez, ocean kayaking and exotic big game hunting. The seaport resort city of Guaymas is a great place for deep sea fishing, unique shopping opportunities and excellent, authentic mexican cuisine.
Tubac: Once a Spanish military garrison-now one of the most popular places to visit in the southwest. The area encompasses: The Village of Tubac, Presidio State Historic Park and The Tubac Center for the Arts. Peaceful streets lined with art galleries, working artist studios, restaurants and unique gift shops surrounded by spectacular mountain vistas. Tubac, the place where art and history meet.
